The Fundraiser for a
Missouri Champion of Justice
was successful. Thanks
September 30, 2003 - Last night we had a fundraiser and it was successful. Attendance was good. More people were present in spirit who could not attend and sent their regrets. Donations occurred in reasonable amounts, and Representative Willoughby (soon to be a Missouri State Senator) told me he was pleased. Thanks to all who attended. Thanks to those who sent donations in advance and could not attend. Thanks in advance to those who are still in the process of making their donations and could not attend. Thanks to those who showed their support by attending but could not donate at this time.
Background about the Fundraiser
On Monday, September 29, 2003 at 5:30 PM, at McGurks Pub, 1200 Russell Blvd in St. Louis, a bunch of justice-minded people gathered to pay respects and donate money to the campaign of a very rare politician, one of Missouri's "Champions of Justice". The fundraiser was sponsored by MATA - Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and co-hosted by a good group of like-minded people.
The Champion of Justice Award is a MATA award that was given to two special members of the Missouri State Legislature. These two members fought hard and effectively for the little guy against big corporate and insurance interests that tried to take away rights and diminish legal protections. The two recipients of the Champion of Justice Award in 2003 were:
1 - Representative Phil Willoughby
(soon to be a Missouri State Senator with our help)

2 - Representative Rick Johnson
(running for re-election)
Representative Rick Johnson Official Bio (Democrat 90th District, Attorney), running for re-election. Here's the Representative Rick Johnson campaign website. He started the website for his 2002 campaign and still uses it - I don't know if he'll continue to use the same site for 2004.
This particular fundraiser was for Rep. Phil Willoughby, co-hosted by Rep. Rick Johnson, MATA and others.
