“Accessibility” notes about TimsLaw.com for persons with disabilities
For those who prefer a “Format Free” display for reading my articles, I suggest you click the link for “Printable Version” that appears near the top of each article.
The “Printable Version” link presents you with a relatively-unformatted pure text screen. No banner across the top, no sidebars, just plain old text with minimal formatting.
I coded with re-sizeable fonts. All the text is re-sizeable to the best of my understanding of coding. I did not put any text in images, No images are used for main navigation. But browser assistance programs will have to deal with tables.
I am aware of some potential accessibility issues regarding Tables. I wanted a three-column display for the Front Page that would degrade gracefully on older browsers yet be reasonably accessible. My choices were few, and I think I picked the lesser of three evils. The three evils are Frames, Layers, and Tables. I chose Tables.
I used tables extensively in the banner across the top, to create an effect that looks like an image but is not an image. I then put the main menu in another table underneath the banner. Then, I put the rest of the Content in one table row spanning three columns. I have tried to put Summary tags in each table declaration for accessibility.
This is a PHP-coded website now. It used to be straight HTML. But I needed a more robust content management system. I’m sorry for any problems that causes. But actually, the site should appear as straight old HTML almost. I did NOT use layers for layout, just tables, almost the exact same layout scheme as has existed since the website debuted in 2002.
Please email me with any accessibility issues you discover as you browse the site.
