Receptionist for Law Office Wanted Kirkwood - Brentwood area.
St. Louis Missouri Attorney Tim Willoughby is hiring a receptionist. Experience not necessary, we expect to train
We are willing to give the right person an opportunity to learn how to work in a professional office setting. We would prefer someone who lives closeby, because we are not paying enough (to start with anyway) to justify a long commute.
The Opportunity to learn and grow is limitless. The more you want to learn, the more you can do.
Be advised that we are also soliciting applications from other sources, so this opportunity is not confined to the internet. You are competing with others, and unless we hear from you ASAP, we might miss hiring you! (and we all know that YOU are the best candidate, right? Don't let us miss out on the chance to hire you. Let us hear from you right away please.
LEARN MORE: Look around on this website, and read the biographical info posted. You can also learn about the history of this website, and many other things about the kind of law we practice. We run a small law office. Towards the bottom of each page of this website are links to Directions and a Map of our location in the Brentwood area, as well as links to biographical and other material.

Major duties after training:
- answer the telephone
- assist in screening potential clients on the telephone
- make appointments
- greet clients in the office
- make the clients feel comfortable, and copy their documents, and get everything ready for the consultation
- collect fees
- data entry tasks on our case management software, as assigned
- filing and file organzation chores, as assigned
- light typing (no special typing skills required - but if you're a good typist, we'll probably give you more typing to do!)
- assist with preparing outgoing faxes and mailings
- process incoming mail and faxes
- occasionally sit in on legal consultations as needed, and also for fun if workload permits
- hold down the fort when everyone else is gone
Traits of the ideal candidate:
- Start at 8am, end at 430pm or so, with some flexibility
- Does not require benefits at this time
- Has very good communication skills
- Presents very well on the telephone
- Literate
- Inquisitive
- Self-motivated to learn and absorb
- Has a reasonable amount of PC knowledge in a Windows environment.
- Can keep client secrets
- Reasonably organized and methodical at work
- Is not too judgemental or easily offended. You will regularly speak to people and encounter legal circumstances that might possibly be somewhat offensive to the delicate minded. You will hear us discuss, and participate in discussing, cases where the subject matter may be offensive to the delicate minded. Plus, you will be working with others in the office who are not easily offended. If your sensitivities are too delicate, you will not be happy, and neither will we.
- We would prefer someone who lives closeby, because we are not paying enough (to start with anyway) to justify a long commute.
Pay, Benefits, Hours:
- PAY: We will pay a starting training wage of $8.00 per hour. Sorry it's so low, but we are not expecting a high functioning paralegal - we are expecting to train a person for a receptionist position. You gotta pay your dues before you get decent bucks.
- BENEFITS: None at this time.
- HOURS: We prefer 8am to 430pm as a general schedule. Leaving early is not usually a problem with notice, and we might ask you to stay later occasionally if you can arrange it.
Intangible positives of the job environment:
In any decent job environment there are plenty of intangible good things about the job, things that make the job a worthwhile place to spend your precious life hours, things that might help the good outweigh the bad. We will try to list a few of these intangible things that might help make the job appealing to a high quality person.
- Intellectual stimulation: You will have ample opportunity to learn about how the legal system works and to discuss cases with the attorney. You will get quite an education about our American legal and political system.
- Helping others: Many times your own feelings, intuitions, and input can be very helpful in persuading us to give further consideration to a case that we might wish not to take on. In other words, you will have the opportunity to influence case selection.
- Ability to grow the job: The job duties are not set in stone. You can take on more tasks if you are able, and you can learn to do more difficult legal tasks if you are motivated enough. You can become more and more valuable to the team.
How to apply for the job:
- Email your resume in RTF or WP format to Attorney Tim Willoughby. My email address is [email protected]. If you can email your resume in the proper format , then you have already somewhat confirmed to us that you possess some basic computer skills.
- Fax your resume to us at 314-968-2244. Please include an appropriate cover note for the fax.
